Malaysian government accelerator MaGIC has appointed Dzuleira Abu Bakar as the new CEO.
She will begin her new role starting from today, replacing former CEO Ashran Ghazi, who departed late last year.
Dzuleira Abu Bakar
Specialize in Venture capital & Tech Startup investments, partnerships, growing and scaling of businesses.
Early, evaluation of technology companies, setting up of organisation processes and policy formulation, corporate finance, investment & project management, strategy, stakeholder & shareholder management, legal advise and sustainability.
Dzuleira, whose previous stints include Cradle Seed Ventures and MAVCAP, has over 15 years of venture capital & private equity background.
Her other portfolios include managing the Usaha Tegas Group’s private equity business and fund-of-funds, as well as institutionalising non-profit institutions as part of Khazanah Nasional’s Hasanah Foundation.
Many express their expectation over the fresh appointment of Abu Bakar to be able to rejuvenate MaGIC and its staff, which are deemed lacking in strong leadership and program (such as the accelerator programmes)
“She will have her hands full for sure,” notes a senior executive with a GLC. “But that is why she has taken on the role. She gets to move the needle for the ecosystem and the country.”
